China hands over patrol boats, grenade launchers to Navy

THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) accepted military equipment, which China donated last week, and was now assessing how it could be integrated into the organization, an official of the Philippine Navy said on Sunday.

“The equipment provided are being assessed as to how this can be integrated within the organization and supported in the long term in terms of logistics,” Commander Jonathan Zata, Navy spokesman, said of the four units of patrol boats and 30 units of rocket propelled grenade launcher (40mm) with corresponding ammunition.

“Likewise, we have assigned personnel to train on its operation and maintenance,” he said.

Zata, however, did not say how much the donation cost, deferring to the Department of National Defense (DND) to answer the query. DEMPSEY REYES
