‘Honesty bus’ starts operations, plies Manila-Rizal route

THE first-ever “honesty bus” began its operations on Monday, plying the Manila-Rizal route this Monday.

Launched by the G Liner, the “honesty bus” is called such because it has no conductor who will collect the fare that ranges from P12 to P53, which means commuters traveling from Lawton to Taytay must pay upon stepping on the bus.

A fare box is placed near the doors of the bus where passengers must drop their payments while a fare matrix is positioned above it so that they may be guided on the amount they must pay corresponding to their drop-off location. The passengers, however, must pay the exact amount, as there is no one assigned to return change.

After paying their fare, passengers must also take their corresponding tickets from a dispenser.

In a statement, G Liner said that the “honesty bus” was a temporary project, which it decided to adopt as part of a cost-cutting measure.

No date has been set as to when the project would end. KIM MALAIT
