Grab seeks explanation on driver-only ban along Edsa

After the Metro Manila Council (MMC) approved the ban on driver-only private vehicles along Edsa, Grab Philippines has sought clarification about the mechanics of the new scheme.

Grab country head Brian Cu said Wednesday it would “initiate dialogue” between government officials and its drivers in order to shed light on the issue.

“We will initiate dialogues with the authorities and our regulators as we seek clarity on this new scheme. We will include your TNVS leaders in the discussions to make sure that your concerns will be well represented,” Cu said in a statement.

According to Cu, other countries like Indonesia have the same policy and Grab has found its way to work it out.

He then assured its drivers and operators that they “will do (their) best to also make it work here.”

On Tuesday, the MMC approved a resolution banning driver-only private vehicles along Edsa during rush hours.

Under the resolution, all lanes of Edsa will be allotted for vehicles carrying at least two individuals including the driver.

The MMC, however, has yet to set the guidelines for the ban. It also remains unclear when the ban would formally take effect.

The MMC is the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), It is composed of all mayors in Metro Manila.   /kga
