Injured militiaman dies a week after Basilan blast

An injured militiaman from the Basilan explosion died in the hospital a week after the incident, bringing the death toll to 11.

Cafgu Active Auxiliary (CAA) Gerry Inso died due to massive blood loss from irreversible hypoxic encephalopathy on Tuesday evening, Basilan-based Dr. Arlyn Jawad Jumao-as of the Save the Children of War Foundation posted on Facebook.

“He fought for his life at the ICU for seven days… You have earned our undying gratitude. We will never forget your sacrifice,” she said.

The death of Inso was also confirmed by military public affairs chief Col. Noel Detoyato.

Ten people were killed and nine others were wounded after a van exploded at a military checkpoint in Lamitan City last Tuesday.

The military played down suspicions that the bombing incident was a suicide attack or perpetrated by the ISIS. The AFP claims that Abu Sayyaf remained the top suspect behind the explosion and extortion was the main motive for the incident. /je
