Monsoon rains, trough of LPA affecting PH — Pagasa

RAINS brought by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” and the trough of a low pressure area (LPA) are affecting parts of the country on Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

As of 7 a.m., the LPA was spotted 1,950 kilometers east of Visayas, according to weather specialist Chris Perez.

“We are not ruling out the possibility that it may turn into a storm within 12 to 24 hours but only its trough is currently affecting portions of Visayas and Mindanao,” Perez said.

The trough of the LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over eastern and central Visayas, Caraga, Davao Region, and Northern Mindanao.

Meanwhile, tropical storm “Rumbia” was 1,085 km northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, remaining outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

It is packing winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 80 kph.

Rumbia is enhancing monsoon rains over the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos provinces, Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have occasional heavy rains because localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said. GLEE JALEA
