Authorities find gun, bullets inside man’s baggage at Naia T3

Security officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) intercepted a 43-year-old man at the airport Terminal 3 for reportedly carrying a loaded revolver and four empty shells last Friday, August 10, the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) said Thursday.

In a report on Thursday, the OTS said Teodoro Manievo was turned over to the Philippine National Police Aviation office after a .22-caliber Magnum revolver loaded with six live ammunition and four empty shells for the same caliber were found in his baggage.

The report said a Security Screening Officer (SSO) detected an image of a firearm inside Manievo’s black sling bag while conducting the route security screening at Gate 6 of Depature Entrance at the Naia Terminal 3.

A baggage inspector subsequently conducted manual inspection of the subject bag to verify the suspicious content.

Suspicions also rose when the security officers also discovered that Manievo was not a passenger of any flight.

In separate airport incidents, the OTS said in its report that security officers at the Mactan Cebu International Airport also discovered pieces of suspected live ammunition inside a passengers’ baggage.

On Sunday, at around 2 p.m., Apostol Krizzle, a Clark-bound passenger, was intercepted with one piece of suspected live ammo of an unknown caliber.  Later that day, at around 10 p.m., another departing passenger, identified as Solaha Heil, was held for two pieces of suspected live ammunition.

Meanwhile, Mark Ivan Ventura, a passenger bound for Zamboanga, was held on Monday with two pieces of suspected live ammunition of caliber 5.56mm.

As part of the standard operating procedures, incidents were properly recorded and confiscated bullets were turned over to the law enforcement officers for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, all passengers were allowed to continue with their respective flights without undue delay, the OTS noted. /jpv
