2 killed, 1 hurt in Dagupan City shooting

DAGUPAN CITY — A real estate broker and a college professor were killed while their companion was hurt after they were shot by gunmen aboard a motorcycle on Thursday in Dagupan City.

Police said broker and former village council member Johnny Baniqued, 47; and Oscar Fernandez, a professor at the University of Luzon, died while they were being taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.

Their companion, Peter Ramos, 44, meanwhile survived the gun attack, said Supt. Jandale Sulit, Dagupan City police chief.

Sulit said the victims had just exited the De Luxe Restaurant in Barangay (village) Tapuac at 9:15 p.m. and were about to board their car when a man alighted from a motorcycle and opened fire with a caliber .45 pistol.

Investigators are still determining the motive behind the shooting.

Recovered from the crime scene were 16 pieces of spent bullet shells, a bullet, five deformed slugs and two slug fragments, all from a .45 caliber pistol. /muf
