Another Bacoor jail escapee slain after resisting arrest

SAN PEDRO CITY — Another detainee who escaped from jail in Bacoor City in Cavite last month was shot and killed by the police on Sunday afternoon.

Supt. Chitadel Gaoiran, spokesperson of the regional police, identified the detainee as Marcelo Ruiz, who was among the 23 who escaped from the city police’s detention facility last July 27.

In a message, Gaoiran said police were able to locate Ruiz in Barangay San Nicolas 3 around 4 p. m. However, instead of turning himself in, Ruiz allegedly fired shots at the law enforcers prompting the police to shoot back.

Ruiz, who was arrested on July 6 on drug charges, was instantly killed, the police said.

Last week, escapee Michael Salac was also slain in a shootout in Barangay Molino 4. Like Ruiz, he faced drug charges.

The Bacoor police had launched a massive manhunt for the  escapees and had recaptured majority of the detainees. Meanwhile, at least eight police officers were relieved from Bacoor after the jail break. /ee
