De Castro to take oath as CJ on Aug. 31 before Duterte

Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro will take her oath before President Rodrigo Duterte on August 31, a Palace official said on Monday.

Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go said “De Castro has communicated to the Office of the President (OP) that she will endeavor to take her Oath at the earliest time as soon as Supreme Court is in receipt of her appointment paper.”

“The OP has scheduled on Aug. 31 for CJ to visit Malacañang and take her Ceremonial Oath before President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” Go told reporters in a text message.

Duterte named De Castro as the replacement of former chief justice Maria Lourdes Sereno who was ousted by eight of her colleagues on May 11 by voting to grant the quo warranto petition filed by Solicitor general Jose Calida. /ee
