P1-M worth of shabu seized in Batangas City bust

SAN PEDRO CITY-A woman was arrested in Batangas City after she was caught in possession of shabu (crystal meth) worth about P1 million.

According to a report from the Batangas police on Thursday, suspect Norhaya Mamantal was arrested in a buy bust operation at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday in Barangay (village) Alangilan.

Mamantal told police that she was from Pasig City although the shabu came from Bacoor City, Cavite. Police are now tracing the source of the drugs.

Meanwhile, in Tanza, also in Cavite, the police arrested a suspended jail guard and three others in an anti-drug operation around 10 p.m. Wednesday in Barangay Bagtas.

Regional police spokesperson Supt. Chitadel Gaoiran said they were tipped off about an ongoing “drug session” in the house of the suspect, identified as Sr. Jail Officer 2 (SJO2) Milandro Lee, 54, and assigned at the Tanza municipal jail.

Lee, his partner Milet Tulipas, and the other suspects identified as Marvin Palomino, and Domingo Padilla were arrested in the operation. It turned out that Lee had been using their house as an illegal drug den, police said.

In a statement, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said Lee would be dismissed from service.

“We will never tolerate anyone from our ranks. He will be dismissed from service,” it said in its statement.

The BJMP also said Lee was under a one-year suspension when arrested by the police. /muf
