Cavite village watchman slain in buy-bust

SAN PEDRO CITY – A village watchman was killed in a police anti-drug operation in Cavite province.

A report from the regional police office on Saturday said suspect Sammy Monares, a village watchman from Barangay (village) Kaingen in Kawit town, was killed in a buy-bust operation around 3:30 p.m. Friday in Barangay 48A in Cavite City.

The police recovered a .38 caliber unlicensed gun and four sachets of suspected “shabu” (crystal meth).

In Bacoor City, Cavite, another drug suspect, Rey Balandra, was slain in a police shootout around 11:30 a.m. Friday in Barangay Talaba IV.

The police were about to implement a search warrant against Balandra, when the suspect resisted arrest and engaged law enforcers in a
