Helmet-wearing suspect shoots man dead in Quezon City

A 34-year-old man was killed by a still unidentified assailant while he was in a drinking binge with friends in Quezon City on Friday night.

In a report issued Saturday, police identified the victim as Marcelino Mata, a native of Rosales, Pangasinan but a resident of Quezon City. He was gunned down by the suspect along Kaliraya Street in Barangay Tatalon at around 9:05 p.m.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was drinking with four others when the suspect suddenly emerged and shot him using a short firearm. Mata died on the spot, police said.

Authorities recovered from the crime scene a cellphone and a spent shell of a still unknown type of gun.

Citing testimonies of witnesses, police said the suspect was wearing a helmet during the incident.

Authorities said investigation is still ongoing.  /kga
