Daquigan cops second in Asia Classic Car Malaysia Race

The Philippine’s lone representative Dexter Daquigan collared second-place finishes in the two classic car races held in Sepang, Malaysia, last weekend amid a challenge from top drivers hailing from Southeast Asia and the United Kingdom.

Daquigan’s all-Filipino crew and team were able to tune his classic Mini Cooper to make it capture podium positions of the Classic Mini Championship and the bigger Asia Classic Car Challenge held during the same weekend at the Formula One track of Sepang. He scored two second places in the two Asia Classic races and second and third places in the two Classic Mini races.

“I am very happy to win these podium finishes in the four races we ran against the top champion drivers of the series,” said Daquigan after the races. “It was just reward for all the hard work that our team put in to finally get second place finish. I dedicate these wins to my family, my son Xedrie and the whole team for all their help and trust in me.”

Previously, Daquigan had a string of bad luck in the first two legs that saw him not getting Top 3 or podium finishes.

With 17 cars from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, United Kingdom, and the Philippines, he said the races were not easy to win.

The two winners that exchanged the top spots in the recent four races were 2016 Classic Mini champion Hafizh Bachok and Mohanjit Singh, winning two races each. Even though there were different race winners, Daquigan would always be up there to pick up second place, which is already a big achievement for him and his team as they were written off by the other race teams after their early dismal showings.

“Thank you to my head mechanic Mr. Muslim Harin, Filipino head mechanic Morris Miranda, team mechanics Armand Hipolito, Eddie Ferreras and team manager Peachie Macapagal for all their efforts,” added Daquigan. “Without their superb job, I don’t think we could have finished in second. It wasn’t easy to take win against these top drivers and I am happy we finally showed what we can do.”
