Thousands in Cavite seek shelter
SAN PEDRO CITY – Thousands of residents, mostly in the coastal towns of Cavite province, sought shelter in evacuation centers.
Trixia Flores, provincial disaster risk reduction and management officer, said 803 families (3,306 persons) were still in evacuation sites as of Saturday morning, following bouts of heavy rain and strong winds brought by Typhoon “Ompong” (international name: Mangkhut).
These, she said, were in the towns of Noveleta, Rosario, Tanza, and Cavite City.
In Ternate town, a fallen tree damaged a house in Barangay Bucana. No one was reported hurt in the incident.
Power outages also occurred in Ternate and Indang towns.
Flores said there was no massive flooding in the province and that most rivers stayed at their normal water levels.
