‘Ompong’ weakens
Typhoon “Ompong” has weakened and slowed down as it moved toward Ilocos Norte, the weather bureau said Saturday.
As of 8 a.m. today, Ompong was spotted in Kabugao, Apayao with maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometer per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 305 kph moving West at 30 kph.
The typhoon whipped northern Luzon beginning Friday with its intense rains and powerful winds, toppling trees, tearing off roofs and cutting electricity in some areas.
The monster typhoon made landfall in Baggao, Cagayan at 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
Signal No. 4 was raised over
Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, and Babuyan Group of Islands. Cagayan, Batanes, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Mountain Province, Benguet, Ifugao, and Northern Isabela are under Signal No. 3.
Meanwhile, Southern Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Zambales, Quirino, Pampanga, Bulacan,and Northern Quezon including Polillo Island are under Signal No. 2.
Signal No 1. was raised over Bataan, Rizal, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, and the rest of Quezon. Jove Moya
