ARMM police warned of of ‘retaliation’ over death of drug lord

PHILIPPINE Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Chief Aaron Aquino warned on Friday that the suspects behind the ambush-slay of five of his men in Lanao del Sur would target policemen next in retaliation for the killing of a local drug lord.

“The PNP (Philippine National Police) will be their next target of ambush, based on the information we got. I already talked to the regional director of police regional office in ARMM (Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) and told them to stay vigilant,” Aquino said in a radio interview.

Lanao Del Sur’s Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) killed Comayug Macapagal, identified as a local drug lord, on August 8 in Marawi City.

Aquino and the PNP believed that ambush incident in Kapai, Lanao del Sur on October 5 may have been a case of “mistaken identity” as the gunmen thought that they were members of the PDEU responsible for the death of Macapagal.

Charges of multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder were filed against eight suspects for the deaths of Kenneth Tabulo, Binzo Dipolla, Diobel Pacinio, Kristina Mae Torlao, and Laurice Joy Amar.

They were identified as Oscar Gandawali, Palawan Macalabo, Lala Amboloto, Jamal Lolo Amboloto, Mizangcad Gandawali, Aiman Gandawali, Jamel Borar alias Memekan, and Wiliam Gandawali, aside from two John Does.

The suspects are relatives of Macapagal, with Wiliam being the slain drug lord’s older brother and incumbent barangay chairman of Induran.

PDEA gave P100,000 to the families of the victims and another P100,000 for the burial.

Authorities are investigating the incident. ROY NARRA
