Ex-presidential bet, Poe ‘tormentor’ on ‘new mission’ in 2019 polls

REMEMBER Rizalito David, the former Senate employee who ran for President in 2016 and gained prominence when he filed a disqualification case against Senator Grace Poe before the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) for not being a natural-born citizen?

David on Tuesday filed his certificate for candidacy (CoC) for senator, together with Alberto Alba, his running mate in 2016. This is also the second time that David filed a CoC for senator after 2013.

“We are on a mission,” David said as he reminisced his 2016 experience, saying that he was on the sixth spot during an early survey by the Social Weather Station (SWS) but was eventually declared a “nuisance” by the Comelec for lack of financial capability to sustain the financial rigors of waging a nationwide campaign.

He appealed to the people for support and put an end to traditional politics, saying that they don’t have the interest and welfare of the people on their agenda but only their  self-interest.

“Senators have economic interest to protect, not the interest of the people but their interest or those who gave them money for their campaign,” David said.

He stressed that candidates should not be allowed to spend during the campaign period more than what they earned or would earned while in public service.

“Senators spend more than P100 million during a campaign period. It’s only the start but there is already corruption,” he said.

He stressed that if elected, he and Alba would bring to their belief as Catholics to the Senate in crafting laws, among them, the need to amend the Epira Law, the Oil Deregulation Law and the Mining Law. WILLIAM B. DEPASUPIL
