Galvez applies as peace consultant in talks with MILF

WITH about 20 more days remaining in his military career, Armed Forces Chief Carlito Galvez Jr. has applied as peace consultant under the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) to monitor the ongoing talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Galvez made the disclosure on Monday during a joint press conference with MILF chairman Al Hadjj Murad Ebrahim who became the first ranking MILF official to visit Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

Galvez said Peace Process Adviser Jesus Dureza accepted his application after conveying his interest.

“I told Secretary Dureza that I can be some sort of consultant, so he accepted my request,” Galvez told reporters in a news conference.

“As to the security condition and situation, we never foresee any violence considering that Chairman Murad Ebrahim have said this is a different, this is an expression of will whether we will be against with the BOL (Bangsamoro Organic Law),” he added.

Galvez, whom President Rodrigo Duterte appointed in April, will retire on December 12. DEMPSEY REYES
