ABS-CBN, GMA both claim TV ratings leadership

BROADCASTING titans ABS-CBN Corp. and GMA Network, Inc. both claimed the lead in the national television ratings game in November.

Citing data from Kantar Media, the Lopez-led network said it defeated GMA in nationwide ratings with an average audience share of 45 percent, compared with the latter’s 30 percent.

The Gozon-led station said that, based on market research firm Nielsen TV Audience Measurement data, its total audience share of 38.6 percent was slightly better than ABS-CBN’s 37.5 percent.

Both media giants highlighted areas where they excelled.

ABS-CBN said it continued to lead in the primetime block with 49 percent, 19 points higher than GMA’s 30 percent.

“The primetime block is the most important part of the day when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a larger chunk of their investment in to reach more consumers effectively,” ABS-CBN explained.

The Kapamilya network also said that in Metro Manila, it had an audience share of 43 percent, compared with GMA’s 23 percent; in Total Luzon, 40 percent against its rival’s 32 percent; in Total Visayas, 53 percent versus

GMA’s 24 percent; and in Total Mindanao, 53 percent against its competitor’s 26 percent.

The Kapuso station said it led in the morning and afternoon blocks with 36.1 percent and 40.2 percent against ABS-CBN’s 32.1 percent and 37.2 percent, respectively.

Its figures in the primetime block, however, were not disclosed.

GMA also said it led in Urban Luzon with 44.1 percent versus ABS-CBN’s 30.8 percent and in Mega Manila with 45.3 percent against ABS-CBN’s 28.5 percent.
