Congressmen offer P30-M bounty on heads of Batocabe killers

LEGAZPI CITY – Members of the House of Representatives raised a P30-million reward Sunday to give to anyone who could help in the identification and arrest of those involved in the killing of Ako Bicol (AKB) congressman Rodel Batocabe.

“The Ako Bicol has pledged P15 million and the rest of the members of the House of Representatives (gave) an initial amount of P20,000 up to P50,000,” AKB Rep. Alfredo Garbin said.

The reward will be given to those who could provide information that would lead to the arrest of the mastermind, gunmen and any other person or persons involved in the killing of the AKB congressman.

Batocabe and his police aide Senior Police Officer 1 Orlando Diaz were killed by unidentified armed men while leaving a gift-giving event in Barangay (village) Burgos in Daraga town in Albay province around 3 p.m. Saturday.

Albay third district Rep. Fernando Gonzalez said in a press conference here Sunday said he “was shocked about the killing since the lawmaker was a down-to-earth guy and had no enemies.”

At the time of his murder, Batocabe was running for mayor in Daraga for the 2019 election.

Meanwhile, Senior Superitendent Milo Pagtalunan, Albay police chief, said Superintendent Benito Dipad, Daraga police chief, was relieved from his post following the killing of the lawmaker.

He said that effective Sunday, Dipad would be replaced by Supt. Dennis Balla, former chief of Albay police intelligence unit.

Dipad will be assigned temporarily at Albay police provincial office.
