MANILA, Philippines — A radio announcer gunning to be a barangay (village) councilor was gunned down by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Negros Oriental before dawn on Friday.

Initial police investigation showed that victim Gabriel Alburo was on his way home from a cockpit onboard his motorcycle when the suspects followed and shot him in La Libertad town at about 3 a.m., Senior Supt. Raul Tacaca, Provincial Director of Negros Oriental, told INQUIRER.net.

Alburo died on the spot, Tataca said, while the suspects fled the crime scene onboard their motorcycle.

Tataca said more than 10 empty shells from a caliber .45 pistol were recovered in the scene.

FEATURED STORIES

Investigators are now looking at all possible angles in the murder, said Tataca.

Tataca said Alburo’s death could also be linked to his job as a radio announcer.

Tataca added that they are also looking into the angle that Alburo’s death was triggered by a heated argument he had with someone at the cockpit.

According to Tataca, the area in the cockpit where the reported argument happened, has no closed circuit television camera.  /muf
