MANILA, Philippines — Despite the challenges of 2018, Filipinos have the chance to “make fair the fight against high prices, unjust tax increases, hunger, calamities, and traffic” in 2019, Senator Francis Pangilinan said on Monday.

The Liberal Party president noted that amid the implementation of the Tax Reform Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law, which resulted in high rice prices, the removal of Supreme Court Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno, the acquittal of former Senator Bong Revilla for plunder, and the killings of Ako Bicol Rep. Rodel Batocabe, priests, mayors, and regular folk in 2018, “we had some wins.”

“Imelda Marcos was convicted of graft and Jovito Palparan of kidnapping UP students Sherlyn Cadapan and Karen Empeño. The arrest of Sen. Trillanes was not carried out,” he added.

“Our fate is in our hands… This 2019, we will have the chance to make fair the fight against high prices, unjust tax increases, hunger, calamities, and traffic,” he said as he endorsed the candidacy of opposition senatorial bets for the 2019 mid-term elections — Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano, Senator Bam Aquino, lawyer Chel Diokno, Marawi civic leader Samira Gutoc, former Solicitor General Pilo Hilbay, lawyer Romy Macalintal, Mar Roxas, and Erin Tañada. /ee
