1 dead, 5 hurt in Pasig City fire on New Year’s Day

MANILA, Philippines — A 60-year old woman died and five others were hurt when a fire hit a residential and commercial building in Barangay Manggahan, Pasig City, on Tuesday, shortly after the celebration of the New Year.
The fire started at about 3:30 a.m., killing Josefina Arañadar. She was declared dead on arrival at the Holy Life Hospital.
Other victims were rushed to the Pasig City General Hospital and Mission Hospital.
Authorities declared a fire out at about 4:30 a.m., according to the Eastern Police District.
