MANILA, Philippines — Only seven fire incidents have been recorded during this holiday season, which is an 82 percent drop from the previous year, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said Tuesday.

BFP spokesperson Superintendent Joanne Vallejo said the BFP recorded 34 fire incidents for the same period last year.

“If we compare to last year, that’s an 82.35 percent drop sa sunog po na insidente kasi po last year of the same period we had 34 fire incidents compared ngayon, seven lang hanggang sa oras po na ito,” Vallejo said in a press conference at the East Avenue Medical Center.

Vallejo said that of the seven incidents the BFP had monitored, six happened at the National Capital Region while one was at the Ilocos Region.

FEATURED STORIES

Vallejo said there was only one incident of a firecracker-related fire. She said it happened on Dec. 26 in Bocaue, Bulacan. In that fire, only a tricycle which was carrying firecrackers got burned, she said.

Most of the recorded fires were caused by unplugged electrical appliances, overheated appliances and stoves left unattended.

“This means ‘yung mga pagluluto na naiwanan, overheating ng electrical appliances, yung hindi po pag-unplug ng atin pong appliances before we go to sleep,” Vallejo said. /muf
