Aftershocks continue to rock Davao Oriental — Phivolcs

AFTERSHOCKS continue to rock Davao Oriental, four days after a magnitude 7.2 earthquake jolted Davao Oriental.

As of posting time, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded aftershocks of magnitudes 2 and 3 today within the area of Governor Generoso.

A magnitude 3 earthquake was felt 125 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental with a depth of 9 kilometers. Another magnitude 2.6 was felt at 1:48 p.m. 158 km southeast of Governor Generoso, which had a depth of 69 kilometers. A 3.1 magnitude earthquake followed right after, at 1:50 p.m. at 192 km southeast of Governor Generoso, with a depth of 33 kilometers.

All three earthquakes were tectonic of origin with no damages expected, according to Phivolcs.

Meanwhile, 12 aftershocks of magnitudes 2 and 3 were recorded on New Year’s Day from 4:16 a.m. to 8:42 p.m. The highest intensity was felt at 11 a.m. with a 3.9 magnitude at 149 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso, which had a depth of 60 kilometers.
