ONE Championship: Brandon Vera responds to bullying

At one point of their lives nearly, everyone had experienced being bullied. Even ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera is no exception to it.
Despite being physically bigger during his childhood, Vera said that he himself went through the horrors of being bullied when he was growing up.
That is why when a video surfaced a few weeks ago which shows a high school student hitting and humiliating his schoolmate in one prestigious school in the Philippines, Vera took it upon himself to share his take on the issue.
“I was bullied when I was growing up, even though I was the bigger kid. Bullying is a very serious problem, both for the bullies and the bullied,” he shared in his latest Instagram video. “They both need our help.”
While it is fairly easy to pin the blame on the bully, Vera believes that it is a complex problem that cannot be fixed overnight as finding ways to solve it will take much time and effort.
For Vera, there are six major steps that everyone must do to help both parties involved. The 41-year-old Filipino-American martial arts superstar used the acronym “RESBAK,” which is the Filipino word for revenge, for people can remember it easily.
RESBAK stands for: R – report to school and family, E – educate others to speak up, S – share how you feel with those who can help, B – believe in yourself, A – act quickly, and K – know that you are loved.
Vera believes that his video is just a way to spread the awareness to everyone and create more solutions about the problem.
Bullying has always been a community issue and requires a community solution. Everybody has to be on board to successfully stamp it out.
“All of us can help through RESBAK. Together, we can all make a difference,” Vera stated.
