Nearly 15,000 devotees line up for ‘Pahalik’ at Quirino Grandstand

MANILA, Philippines–The number of devotees of the Black Nazarene at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila lining up for the ‘Pahalik’ have reached almost 15,000 on Tuesday, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said.

As of 11 a.m., the NCRPO said that a total of 14,750 devotees were at the Quirino Grandstand to touch and kiss the icon of the Black Nazarene.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,000 devotees were at the Quiapo Church a day before the Traslacion commence on Wednesday morning.

As of posting time, no untoward incident has been reported to police authorities at the Quirino Grandstand.

The NCRPO said devotees started to line up for the traditional “Pahalik” as early as 6 a.m.

The annual Pahalik of the Black Nazarene image is usually attended by thousands of devotees of the miraculous image from across the country.

Last year, more than 30,000 devotees participated in the “Pahalik.”

It is part of the celebration of the Traslacion, which is celebrated every January 9. /jpv
