THE Quezon City government suspended classes in all levels on Wednesday, January 9, Feast of the Black Nazarene, to avoid inconveniencing motorists and commuters brought about by its annual procession in Manila.

Mayor Herbert Bautista, in a memorandum, cancelled all classes, both in public and private schools, due to “…the reported threats to security and orderliness of the conduct of the activity, including the implications to the vehicular and pedestrian traffic.”

The memo was signed by City Administrator Aldrin Cuña and released just before noon.

Bautista enjoined teachers “to provide students affected additional compensatory homework.”

Traslacion is expected to disrupt traffic along roads going to Quiapo Church, especially along Quezon Avenue.

The memorandum was addressed to all division superintendents of city schools, school administrators, and headmasters. JAIME R. PILAPIL
