THE Philippine National Police (PNP) will recommend a suspect-turned-witness in the killing of AKO Bicol Rep. Rodel Batocabe to become the recipient of at least a portion of the P50-million reward for providing information that was used in identifying those who plotted and carried out the crime in December.

PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde said the break in the investigation came when Emmanuel Judavar, currently the primary witness, gave the information to police.

Judavar pointed to Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo in Albay as the alleged mastermind of the assassination of Batocabe, who would have gone up against him in the May elections.

Judavar was initially part of the plot but dropped out after Baldo refused to grant his request for payment in exchange for Batocabe’s murder.

“Apparently, [Judavar] left them after he asked for some small amount from the mayor but he was not helped so he got angry at him,” Albayalde said.

Lawmakers and local authorities initially raised P30 million for anyone who could provide information on the suspects but President Rodrigo Duterte raised it to P50 million.

Batocabe was killed on December 22, 2018, along with his security aide SPO1 Orlando Diaz. The lawmaker was laid to rest on December 30. ROY NARRA
