Voters buck bad weather for Bangsamoro plebiscite

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur: Voting precincts opened early on Monday for the historic plebiscite on the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) amid the bad weather caused by Tropical Depression “Amang.”
“Amang” made landfall in Surigao del Sur on Sunday night and is causing rain in parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.
Voters came as early as 6:30 a.m. to cast their ballots to either approve or reject the BOL that would abolish the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and replaced by an expanded Bangsamoro with full fiscal autonomy.
As of posting time, Sr. Supt. Madzgani Mukaram, chief of Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office (LDSPPO), told The Manila Times that his office has not received any untoward incident.
In Kapatagan, the last town of Lanao del Sur towards Maguindanao province, Mayor Raida Maglangit told The Manila Times that voters were queuing and left as soon as they cast their ballots.
“It is, indeed, very peaceful and orderly,” she said.
In Marantao which is the next town West of Marawi, it was likewise peaceful. Municipal information officer Ansari Abinal said the plebiscite in his town was efficiently conducted as voters were cooperative in following procedures.
Dangiprampiai Barangay (Village) chairman Camal Macaraya in the municipality of Ditsaan Ramain said the voting in the municipality was going on smoothly.
The plebiscite is expected to finish later today.
