Capiz Rep. Fred Castro is new majority leader

MANILA, Philippines — Camarines Sur 1st District Rep. Rolando Andaya Jr. formally yielded his majority leadership to Capiz 2nd District Rep. Fredenil Castro whom he described “our best choice” for the position.
As anticipated, Andaya motioned to nominate Castro as the new majority leader of the chamber during Monday afternoon’s plenary session. The motion was approved without objection.

The Camarines Sur congressman also moved for a change of referral of the inquiry into budget anomalies from the rules panel to the committee on appropriations, which he would now chair.
Castro said he would “try his best to serve” the House of Representatives. As a tradition, Castro would also chair the rules committee. /je
