CEBU CITY—The police are leaning towards politics as the motive behind the ambush of San Fernando town, Cebu Mayor Lakambini Reluya on Tuesday afternoon.

But the top official of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) said they were also not discounting other angles in the ambush that killed three people, including the husband of the mayor, Ricardo Reluya, who is also the president of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) in the town.

“We will create a SITG (Special Investigation Task Force) and invite some persons (who can shed light on the matter),” said Chief Supt. Debold Sinas, director of PRO-7.

In a press briefing, Sinas said they have talked with Mayor Reluya and the latter believed that the ambush was carried out by one of her political rivals.
