THE country’s manufacturing growth weakened in January with the Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) dropping to a four-month low,  results of the latest IHS Markit/Nikkei survey relased on Friday showed.

The seasonally adjusted PMI fell to 52.3 in January from 53.2 in December, indicating a modest advancement in business conditions. Last month’s result was the lowest since the 52 recorded in September.

The PMI is a composite index, which represents the weighted average of new orders, output, employment, suppliers’ delivery time and stocks. Readings above 50 signal an expansion while below that is a contraction. ANNA LEAH E. GONZALES
