C. Luzon teachers’ group demands pay hike, end to police profiling

ANGELES CITY – The Alliance of Concerned Teachers – Central Luzon (ACT-CL) staged a unity walk and prayer rally here Tuesday afternoon and aired the group’s economic demands and called for a stop to the police profiling of ACT leaders and members.
Public and private school teachers from Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales took part in the activity in front of the Holy Rosary Church.
Mathew Guetan Santiago, secretary general of ACT-CL, said the 2019 national budget should have funds allocated for the teachers’ adjusted salaries and incentives.
The teachers likewise called for immediate release of their much-delayed salary increase under the fourth tranche of Executive Order 201.
Santiago added that teachers and heads of schools are still being hounded by the police.
The group’s legal officer Fabian Hallig said police officers visited some ACT members and asked about the group’s activities.
On Tuesday morning, posters tagging the ACT as a member of the New People’s Army were posted along Sto. Entierro Street and near Holy Angel University. /gsg
