One inmate’s attempt in escaping a county jail proved to be a failure after a ceiling he tried to crawl into collapsed — falling right in the booking area of the jail.

Blaze Ayers, 28-years-old, was being taken to his holding cell by jail officers of the Jackson County Jail in Indiana, United States when he ran into a medical room and locked himself inside.

The officers went to the adjacent room to reach Ayers, except he had already made his way into the ceiling when they entered, as per the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department on Feb. 5. The incident happened in the evening of Feb. 4.

“Jail Officers attempted to get Ayers to come down but he refused to comply,” the department stated. “Ayers continued to crawl through the ceiling in an attempt to escape, causing damage to the ceiling in multiple areas of the booking area.”

Ayers, however, was unsuccessful in his attempt. He eventually fell through the ceiling and to the floor of the booking area.

Upon falling, Ayers still refused to comply with orders given, and he was subdued by a [taser],” the department said. “Jackson County EMS responded to treat Ayers for minor injuries obtained during the escape attempt.”

Ayers has since been charged with attempted escape, a level 5 felony, as well as criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor. He was being held at the jail on a failure to appear warrant, with his original charge being battery.

The incident is currently being investigated. JB
