MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) clarified on Sunday that the footbridge seen in a viral video that had cable wires in the middle of its path is not yet open to the public.

According to Garcia, the footbridge has a huge sign stating that the footbridge is not yet ready to use.

“Ito pong footbridge na ito, hindi pa bukas. May harang po yan,” Garcia said in an interview with dzMM.

“Ang ginawa po siguro nitong mga malisyosong kababayan natin ay tinanggal yung harang, dumaan sila, at vinideo,” he added.

Garcia was reacting to a viral post by a netizen where it could be seen that cable wires were blocking the way of pedestrians using the footbridge.

The footbridge is located along Congressional Avenue in Quezon City. Since its posting last February 14, the video now has more than 6,200 reactions and 14,000 shares.

Garcia also said that MMDA engineers have been trying to track who are the owners of the utility cables were since the start of its construction.

“Pag hindi nila tinanggal yan, kami na mismo ang puputol d’yan,” Garcia warned.

Owners of the controversial cable wires have until Thursday to remove the cables. /je
