Aquino: Like Edsa revolt, 2019 polls to give Filipinos chance to fight for future

MANILA, Philippines — As the country commemorates the 33rd anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution, Senator Bam Aquino on Monday appealed to voters to seize the opportunity presented by the midterm elections this year to fight for a better future for their families and the country.
This as the reelectionist senator likened the Edsa People Power Revolution in 1986 to the May 2019 elections, saying both give Filipinos the chance to defend democracy and make a better future for the nation.
“Milyun-milyong Pilipino noon ang dumagsa sa EDSA alang-alang sa kinabukasan ng kanilang pamilya,” Aquino said in a statement.
“Ngayon, milyun-milyong Pilipino ang boboto sa Mayo. Sana, gaya ng dati, ang batayan ng taumbayan ay ang kinabukasan ng kanilang pamilya,” he added.
According to Aquino, voters should pick candidates that will help improve their lives and that of their families’ and not vote based on popularity.
“Gawin nating sukatan ang track record at iba pang magagawa ng mga kandidato para sa atin at sa ating mga pamilya, hindi dahil matunog ang kanilang pangalan,” Aquino pointed out.
On February 25, 1986, Filipinos held a bloodless revolution to topple the regime of the late strongman Ferdinand E. Marcos. /kga
