Fire guts 20 houses in Lucena

LUCENA CITY – A fire gutted more than 20 houses in Lucena City early morning Wednesday.
Supt. Reydante Ariza, Lucena police chief, said in a spot report that the blaze razed an undetermined number houses owned mostly by low-income residents in Barangay Market View.
Police said the fire started around 1 a.m. and lasted for about three hours.
The report said more than 40 persons suffered minor injuries during the blaze. No casualty was reported by the police.
Firemen were still conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.
But according to some fire victims in a local radio interview, the blaze allegedly originated from one of the stoves of smoked fish or “tinapa” traders in the area.
The survivors said more than 20 houses were burned down.
The city government immediately provided emergency assistance to fire victims./lzb
