MANILA, Philippines — Reelectionist senator JV Ejercito said on Thursday he did not buy the endorsement of his half-brother, former Senator Jinggoy Estrada, and that “politics is like showbiz also.”

Ejercito was reacting to Estrada’s appeal to San Juan City voters on Wednesday to make his half-brother their No. 1 candidate in the upcoming midterm elections in May 2019.

The sons of former president Joseph Estrada reportedly had a feud in the run-up to the 2019 senatorial race.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday in Quezon City, Ejercito said his brother may have forgotten his birthday wish that only three of the members of Estrada clan may win in the May polls.

“Nung birthday wish niya gusto niya tatlo lang daw silang manalo e, si President Erap lang, siya saka si Janella. Parang di ako nabanggit sa wish list niyang manalo,” Ejercito said.

(During his birthday, Jinggoy’s wish was for only three members of the clan to win in the elections — President Erap, Janella, and himself. I don’t think I was included there.)

“Baka naman nakaligtaan lang yung birthday wish. Pati nga yung isang kapatid ko e ang dami-dami naming tumatakbo bakit tatlo lang silang dapat manalo?” he added.

(Maybe he has forgotten his birthday wish. There are many of us running in the May polls, including my sibling, why would he wish for only three to win?)

The Estrada patriarch is running for reelection as Manila mayor while Jinggoy’s daughter Janella is running as San City mayor.

Ejercito expressed optimism that he will win in San Juan City, where he served as mayor for three consecutive terms from 2001 to 2010.

“Siguro naman hindi nila makakalimutan, panahon ko nung nag-quadruple ‘yung income ng San Juan, panahon ko nung naging City ang San Juan. And I [have] always been proud of my achievements in San Juan kasi nga lowest poverty incidence kami, (at) best managed LGU,” he said.

(Maybe they won’t forget that it was during my time as may that San Juan’s income had quadrupled. It was during my time that San Juan became a city. And I have always been proud of my achievements in San Juan because it has the lowest poverty incidence ad the best managed LGU.) /ee
