Survey says Pasay races tilted in favor of incumbents

A new Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey dug into local politics, showing the congressional race in Pasay City heavily tilted in favor of Mayor Antonino Calixto, who is on his third and last term as city chief executive.
Results of the SWS survey showed Calixto getting 86 percent voter preference and leading in the five-way race for the city’s seat in the House of Representatives.
The survey, conducted from Jan. 25-28 with 600 respondents, came just two and a half months before the elections in May.
One of Calixto’s rivals in the race, businessman Efren Alas, had 6 percent preference while another rival, Elmer Mitra, had 3 percent.
Rep. Emi Calixto-Rubiano, who is running for mayor in place of her brother, was also headed to an easy win in the mayoral race with 81 percent preference, according to the SWS survey results.
Her closest rival, Chet Cuneta, son of the late Mayor Pablo Cuneta, had 14 percent preference.
The SWS survey showed very high trust ratings for both Mayor Calixto and Representative Rubiano.
In a statement, the camp of Calixto attributed this to their highly popular propoor programs that included monthly allowances for students, rice subsidy, feeding and health care programs.
The same SWS poll showed the vice mayoral race tilted in favor of Vice Mayor Boyet del Rosario, who scored a 66 percent preference over his rival, former Councilor Richard Advincula, who got 26 percent.
Advincula ran and lost the race for Liga ng Barangay chair last year with seven votes from Pasay City.
The SWS survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent with a 95-percent confidence level.
