THE investigation against incoming Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Gov. Benjamin Diokno will no longer be pursued under this Congress, said a leader at the House of Representatives who actively chased the outgoing Budget secretary over alleged “insertions” in the 2019 national appropriation.

House appropriations chairman Rolando Andaya Jr. said the investigation against Diokno would likely take place “in some other time” and would be undertaken by “some other person,” “maybe in the next Congress.”

Andaya issued the statement before reporters who asked how he would go about budget-related documents under the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), which Diokno now heads.

Without commenting on Diokno’s appointment, Andaya said: “It’s just another day in office, I guess.”

Earlier in the day, Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was also brief when asked to comment on Diokno’s appointment.

“Congrats,” said Arroyo who has denied talks that she was eyeing to be the next BSP chief, replacing  Nestor Espenilla Jr. who died of cancer last February 23.

House minority leader Danilo Suarez, who previously filed a resolution calling for Diokno’s ouster as then budget chief, said on Tuesday that he would still likely be called to attend public hearings.

“He still has pending issues with the House. We still don’t have closure,” Suarez said.
