OVER 800,000 ordinance violators were arrested from June 2018 to March 2019 in Metro Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Sunday.

Violators of the smoking ban topped the list of offenders, with 191,917 or 23.70 percent rounded up as of 5 a.m. of Sunday, NCRPO Chief Guillermo Eleazar said.

Minors who violated curfew hours were at 48,763 or 6.02 percent of the total number of those arrested, said Eleazar.

A total of 42,740 individuals or 5.28 percent were those who were caught half-naked or topless in public places while 37,890 or 4.68 percent were rounded up for drinking in public places.

The 488,575 persons arrested violated other city ordinances across Metro Manila, said Eleazar.

There are five police districts under the NCRPO—the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Manila Police District (MPD), Eastern Police District (EPD), Southern Police District (SPD) and the Northern Police District (NPD).

Of the five, QCPD recorded the biggest number of arrests with 473,352 or 58.45 percent or more than half of all those arrested in the capital.

The EPD was second with 153,594 persons or 18.96 percent apprehended, followed by the NPD with 73,156 arrested or 9.03 percent; MPD has 62,607 or 7.73 percent; and the SPD with 47,176 or 5.83 percent. DEMPSEY REYES
