MANILA, Philippines — The Eastern Police District has warned the public about extortion and grave threats being spread through text messages and social media from alleged members of Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

“If you receive such information through your mobile phones, please do not hesitate to report to the nearest police station for verification and possible operation. Help us stop this scheme of spreading fear to the public. Do not share or pass the text message to anyone, just report it immediately so as not to create panic or harm,” Senior Supt. Christopher Tambungan, EPD acting director, said in a statement on Tuesday.

Tambungan said Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina and San Juan cities have been “peaceful for the past years” due to effective partnerships and cooperation between EPD and private organizations and business sectors.

With this, Tambungan said they will implement continuous counter intelligence efforts and target measures to government, private and non-private offices.
