San Jose City silat bets shine in BPinoy Luzon qualifying leg

ILAGAN CITY, Isabela: San Jose City, Nueva Ecija displayed its mastery in pencak silat by winning seven gold medals on Tuesday in the Luzon Qualifying leg of Batang Pinoy 2019 at the covered court of Brgy. Osmeña here.

Bieto Barol Jr. ruled the boys’ tunggal (single form) early age division while Jenelle Ann Adriano and Luke Albert Capulong dominated the girls’ tunggal pre-teenager and boys’ tunggal pre-teenager, respectively.

Capulong won another gold medal in the ganda (double form) pre-teenager boys’ category with his partner Samuel Benedict Ramos.

San Jose City won three more gold in regue (team form) courtesy of Jenelle Ann Adriano, Camille Trases and Anne Mariel Dela Rosa (girls; regu pre-teenager); Jerameel Trases, Juliana Marie Salvador and Sheene Cantorna (girls’ regu teenager); and Lance Scott Tira, John Willis Rimando and Matthew Albert Capulong (boys’ regu teenager).

Palarong Pambansa’s most bemedalled athlete Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh copped two gold medals after topping the swimming competition on Tuesday.

The 12-year old Mojdeh dominated the 200m (2:34.91) and 400m (5:25.11) individual medley in the girls’ 13-15 category.

Owner of Philippine marks in 100m and 200m butterfly, Mojdeh eyes to sweep her events this year.

She is scheduled to compete in the girls’ 100m and 50m butterfly Wednesday and 200m butterfly on Thursday.

In tae kwon do poomsae (form), Ian Matthew Corton of Quezon City bagged two gold medals while Aesha Kiara Oglayon of Baguio clinched one gold in the junior boys’ and cadet girls’, respectively.

Corton garnered 8.105 points, beating King Nash Alcairo of Quezon Province with 8.04 and Emmanuel Christopher Austria of Naga City with 7.95 and Carl John Viloria of Alicia, Isabela with 7.88 in the individual junior male class.

Corton bagged his second gold in the team event with Maria Nicole Anne Labayne.

Ilocos Norte and San Jose Del Monte copped one gold each after beating their respective opponents in the lawn tennis.

San Jose Del Monte blasted Sta. Rosa City, Laguna, 2-0 while Ilocos Norte beat Pangasinan, 2-0, to finish second.

In girls’ volleyball, Pangasinan defeated Mandaluyong (25-7, 25-8), Angeles City ousted Sta. Rosa (25-21, 25-22), Bataan subdued Muntinlupa (25-13, 25-18), while Antipolo bested Tuguegarao (25-14, 25-10) at the Camunatan Covered Court.

Over at the Brgy. Calamagui 2nd Covered Court, Naga City crushed Ilagan, 12-1, to advance in the next phase of the Futsal competition. Candon City escaped Baguio City, 3-1, while Olongapo City blanked Tanauan City, 3-0, in the League Group.

In the basketball elimination round, Polangui outscored Guinobatan, 71-50, in Pool A, Calapan City defeated San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, 75-60, in Pool B, San Fernando thumped Makati City, 70-67, in Pool C, and Dasmariñas beat Pangasinan, 81-65, in Pool D.

Baguio City is leading the medal tally with six gold, seven silver, and three bronze medals followed by Quezon City (5-1-0) and San Jose City, Nueva Ecija (4-5-9), as of 6 p.m. Monday.

The Luzon qualifying leg winners will advance to the national championships in October.
