President Rodrigo Duterte will continue his tradition of quietly celebrating his birthday in his home in Davao City, his spokesman said on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, Malacañang spokesman Salvador Panelo said Duterte, who is turning 74 on Thursday, would spend the day with his family.

“The same celebration. He (Duterte) stays in the house and with the family,” Panelo said during a news briefing.

Last year, the President celebrated his birthday in similar fashion, with a simple family get-together.
On his 73rd birthday, Duterte got a visit from his grandchildren at his home.

His former top aide and now a candidate for senator, Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, earlier said a simple prayer would make Duterte “very happy” during his birthday.

“Prayers from his well-wishers during his birthday would surely make him very happy,” according to Go.
Duterte has not been known for throwing big parties on his birthday, even when he was mayor of Davao City for more than 23 years, and vice mayor for one term each and first district representative.
He usually makes himself scarce on his birthday.

The President was born on March 28, 1945 in Maasin, Southern Leyte to Vicente Duterte, who was governor of the undivided Davao in the late 1950s, and Soledad Roa, a teacher.
