Philippine Swimming League (PSL) tankers Marc Bryan Dula, Trump Christian Luistro and Mary Maika Montecillo bagged the Most Outstanding Swimmer (MOS) awards in their respective age-groups in the 2019 Thanyapura International Swimming Championship held at the Thanyapura Swimming Pool in Phuket, Thailand.

Dula, a Masville Elementary School-Paranaque standout, collected 140 points by sweeping all his seven events to win the top honors in the boys’ 11-12 category.

He dominated the 50m backstroke (32.54), 100m butterfly (1:09.57), 100m freestyle (1:05.07), 50m butterfly (30.67), 100m backstroke (1:13.40), 50m freestyle (29.34) and 200m Individual Medley (2:35.71) against tall and well-experienced foreign opponents.

Dula now shifts his sights on the 2019 Palarong Pambansa scheduled this month in Davao City.

The Hope Christian School-Legazpi student Luistro also scored 140 points as he claimed seven gold medals in the boys’ 9-10 class.

Luistro ruled the 50m backstroke (38.30), 200m freestyle (2:34.39), 50m butterfly (33.85), 100m freestyle (1:10.18), 50m breaststroke (43.52), 50m freestyle (31.55) and 100m breaststroke (38.85) events.

Montecillo was also impressive as she pulled off surprising victories against veteran Chinese rivals to win the MOS award in the girls’ 9-10 division.

The Dipolog Pilot Demonstration School pride flashed her lethal form and took home the gold medals in 100m backstroke (1:24.04), 100m butterfly (34.23), 100m freestyle (1:11.53), 50m backstroke (38.83) and 100m butterfly (1:17.42) before settling for silver in 50m freestyle (32.55) on the final day of the competition.

“She’s a strong swimmer and if given the proper training and exposure, she could go a long, long way,” noted PSL delegation head coach Alex Papa.

It was Montecillo’s second straight MOS plum in international competition this year after claiming her first in the 2019 Japan Age-Group Swimming Championship held last month at the St. Mary’s International School in Tokyo, Japan.

Diliman Preparatory School swimmers Albert Sermonia II (boys’ 13-14), Jenn Albreicht Sermonia (girls’ 9-10) and John Leo Paul Salibio (boys’ 15-over) were also part of the delegation along with coaches Jen Sermonia and Luisito Luistro, and Dr. Maurice Anthony Montecillo.

Albert copped two gold medals in 100m butterfly (1:07.25) and 50m butterfly (29.04), and three bronzes in 100m freestyle (1:00.02), 50m breaststroke (34.80) and 50m freestyle (27.70) while Jenn Albreicht pocketed silver medals in 100m backstroke (1:26.85), 100m butterfly (34.50), 50m breaststroke (44.71) and 100m breaststroke (1:35.65), and one bronze in 50m backstroke (39.96).

“I would like to congratulate our swimmers for an outstanding performance in Phuket. They were able to surpass our medal production last year and we are hoping to come back next year with more swimmers,” said PSL president Susan Papa.

“We would like to thank Sen. Nikki Coseteng for always supporting the team as well as our very supportive parents and coaches for helping the whole delegation. We will continue discovering talents and send them in international competitions,” she added.
