FOR the 5th consecutive day, the entire Luzon grid will be placed on yellow alert for an hour this afternoon, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) announced on Friday.

In its advisory, the NGCP said the alert would be up on the country’s largest island from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Below are the power plants that are still offline:

Malaya 2 (350 megawatts), Pagbilao 3 (420 MW), SLTEC 1 (135 MW), Makban 7 (20 MW), Tiwi 6 (57 MW), and Tiwi 1 (60 MW) went on unplanned shutdown, while Calaca 1 (300 MW), Pagbilao 1 (382 MW), and San Roque 2 (145 MW).

Power plants that are not running on full capacity are: Masinloc 2 (344 MW), Calaca 2 (300 MW), Malaya 1 (300 MW), and SLPGC 2 (150 MW).

Available capacity is at 11,292 MW while peak demand is at 10,097 MW.

The NGCP defines yellow alert as a system condition in which the reserves are less than the capacity of the biggest plant online, which is 647 MW for Luzon.

This is the 5th straight day that a yellow alert has been declared in Luzon this month and the 8th time since the beginning of the year.
