Centro Escolar University (CEU) stretched its group lead after routing the tough-luck CD14 Designs-Trinity University of Asia (TUA), 93-69, in the Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League (PBA D-League) on Monday at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao, Quezon City.

Waxing hot early on, the Scorpions easily cruised to their fifth win in as many outings to further pull away in the Foundation Group.

“They (CD14 Designs-TUA) are winless and my team might just take them for granted. That’s what I’ve been pounding to them that if they’re gonna get their first win, let them get it from other teams and not from us,” said CEU head coach Derrick Pumaren.

“My players responded well,” added the veteran mentor, who drew double-digit scoring from four players.

Senegalese big man Maodo Malick Diouf powered his way to a monstrous game anew, firing a game-high 27 points on top of 18 rebounds.

Jan Formento chipped in 17 points built on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc while Tyron Chan and Judel Fuentes added 13 markers apiece in the win.

CEU made up for its 21 turnovers with its dominance over CD14 Designs-TUA in rebound (54-33) and assist (28-18).

Diouf drained 17 points in the opening period to spark the Scorpions’ searing 31-15 start.

The Mendiola-based squad extended the gap to 45-17 on Formento’s triple midway the second frame and never looked back from then on.

John Tayongtong and Gab Reyes had 11 points each while skipper Michael Cañete had nine markers and 11 boards for the White Stallions, who remained winless in five games.

In the second game, McDavid repulsed Family Mart-Enderun Colleges,73-68, for a breakthrough victory.

McDavid fended off the Titans’ late fightback to post its maiden victory after a four-game losing start in the Aspirant’s Group.

“I give credit to the boys because they followed our X’s and O’s,” said mentor Allen Ricardo, whose team saw its 19-point lead cut down to 70-68 in the waning moments of the game.

Michael Sorela exploded with a game-best 22 points to lead three other McDavid cagers in double figures.

Janus Lozada tallied 14 points, Rev Diputado contributed 12 markers while ex-PBA forward Jerwin Gaco drilled in a 10-point, 14-rebound double-double.

Valandre Chauca had 17 points and 10 dimes while former-PBA standout Fonzo Gotladera had 16 markers and 15 rebounds for Family Mart-Enderun, which dropped to 0-5.
