KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — At least 50 houses made of light and semi-concrete materials were destroyed by strong winds that came during a heavy downpour in Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat on Tuesday, April 9.

There was no storm but the wind was strong enough to topple huge trees and blow away the roofing of several homes in the two affected villages of Tacurong, according to the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO)said.

The heavy downpour occurred just as the city, like most areas in the country, was experiencing a dry spell brought on by the “weak” El Niño.

“Clearing operations are still ongoing as of 7 p.m. Tuesday,” the Tacurong City CDRRMO said in a statement.
