A taxi driver was arrested in Pasay City for mugging his passenger, identified as a Malaysian tourist, police said on Thursday.

The suspect was identified as Jose Sajul, 61. His victim was Tze Chea Kon, 22, who told police that he was on board Sajul’s cab on the way to the SM Mall of Asia on Wednesday when he was mugged at knifepoint, his P6,000 in cash taken from him.

Kon, who took note of the vehicle and suspect, promptly sought assistance from the Pasay Police Community Precinct 11, which arrested Sajul in the area where he victimized Kon.

Sajul told police that he gambled away Kon’s money and was on the lookout for another foreigner when police arrested him.

The suspect confessed that Kon was the third foreigner he was able to rob and that driving cabs was his cover.

Investigation showed that Sajul would swap the taxis that he would borrow to cover his tracks.

Sajul is currently detained and awaiting charges for robbery and for violating the Omnibus Election Code for wielding a bladed object. NEIL JAYSON N. SERVALLOS
